Bridges from the Bay

 the Bow Bridge and Trestle

The old D&H trestle was built to carry heavy trainloads of ore from the mines of Tahawus. It even looks strong and makes the Bow Bridge seem more graceful and delicate. They are a familiar sight while driving up Bay Road in Lake Luzerne.

My fascination with the Bow Bridge started at an early age. I grew up in Corinth and my Grandmother lived on Hadley Hill. My dad always drove over the Bow Bridge and my siblings and I would gaze into the swirling white water far below. Crossing the old fragile looking bridge was somewhat frightening and at the same time exciting. But the span always held us securely. It had been closed for many years but work to restore this one of a kind historic bridge has begun. When I cross it again I will think of long ago and Sunday visits to Grandma's.
