"Adota's View"

original adirondack painting by lynn benevento

We stood atop Indian Head (a rock formation resembling the face of a Native American man) many years ago when descending Nipple Top. The day was hot and humid with hazy views, but we could tell the scene from these ledges would be worth a return trip.  Three years ago Gino and I chose a clear day and again hiked the Lake Road and climbed Indian Head.  We had a late start and a longer than prudent talk with a jovial man, at the gate to the Adirondack Mountain Reserve, who resembled Santa.  So when we made it to our destination, it was late in the day.  But the lower shadows on the mountains under the blue skies made a spectacular scene.  Colden and Nipple Top were on one side, with the Ausable Lakes far below. Sawteeth was right “in your face” with Gothics, Armstrong, and the Wolf Jaws close by.  Even though Indian Head is dwarfed by the bigger peaks, it is a truly awesome vantage point.

"Sneezeweed and Bumblebees"

Hot air balloon painting by lynn benevento, Adirondack Artist

I usually don't paint the "special shaped" balloons, but Aerial Marketing's "Little Bees" are adorable.  Lily and Joey have visited our Adirondack Balloon Festival the last two years and are a favorite of everyone.  If conditions are just right the expert pilots launch them together with their hands attached by Velcro.  In the air they sometimes "kiss".

"Winter Glow"

hot air balloon painting by lynn benevento Adirondack artist

Yes, hot air balloons do fly in the winter.  The colder air keeps the crown of the balloon from overheating, a problem in the heat of the summer.  My husband took a wonderful flight a couple of years ago from the ice on Lake George.  The colors of the balloon looked spectacular against the snowy mountains.  These barns are from Washington County, a favorite landing area.

"Landing Field"

hot air balloon art by lynn benevento Adirondack Artist

Our neighbors have a riding stable and a large herd of horses.  I wanted to do this painting so went to find the perfect horse for the scene.  This one seemed to fit the bill, and when the neighbors saw it they said it was their daughter's horse, "Denver".

"Yep, It's Crop"

hot air balloon art by lynn benevento Adirondack Artist

We were crewing for this balloon when darkness set in and it was suspended above hills and electric wires.  The pilot made a decision to set down in the safety of a corn field.  When we arrived, she gave the balloon a little heat and we walked it out above our heads and the stalks. The farmer was there and refused payment for the small amount of corn that was damaged.  When they are flying these pilots ask if a possible landing site is grass or crop, not wanting to land in the latter.  This was was for sure, yep, it's crop!

Framed original painting $400

canvas size 9" x 11"

framed 12 1/2" x 14 1/2 (approx)
